One week into the lineup change, McLoud slowpitch softball star Callie Cardin likes batting atop the order.

Cardin went 17 for 23 atop McLoud’s lineup last week, hitting three home runs, two doubles and two triples while driving in 16 runs.

“She really took on the role of leading us with power,” McLoud coach Chance Griffin said. “When the bottom of the order got on she did her job to make sure and manufacture runs. She’s a hard-nosed kid that makes us go.”

McLoud, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, went 7-1 last week, losing only to Class 6A power Southmoore. It’s a big week as the postseason nears.

“The team seems to be clicking at the right time,” Griffin said.
