Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center students recently showcased their video production skills for Keep Oklahoma Beautiful’s “End Litter” contest and won both the high school and college divisions. The students won a total of $1,500 from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Lyric Morris, Olivia Brown, Jason Underwood, Joey Mitchell, Riley Bryant, Hunter Reed and Sara Padilla made up the high school division team from Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center. Their video was “Let’s Make Oklahoma Beautiful.”
“We had to make the video fairly short so we wanted to come up with an idea that left an impact,” digital media student Hunter Reed said. “We wanted to focus on what people may not see about litter — like how the Department of Transportation spends millions of dollars to clean up the roads and how that money could actually go toward bettering the condition of Oklahoma roads instead.”
Wyatt Harris and Davis Ramer were on the school's team that competed in the college division. Their video was titled “A Gift to Us.”
“Wyatt and I both like animals and we wanted to help people realize that litter doesn’t just affect landscaping but it affects animals, too,” digital media student Davis Ramer said.
Jeanette Nance, executive director of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, said the videos will be featured on their website and social media sites, and she also will be using them when she gives presentations throughout the year.
