New 'Kiss Me, Kate' revival, starring Kelli O'Hara and Will Chase, to record an original cast album
Ghostlight Records has announced that the new Broadway revival of "Kiss Me, Kate," starring Oklahoma native Kelli O'Hara, Will Chase, Corbin Bleu and Stephanie Styles, will be recording an original cast album.
The album will be recorded on April 22. A release date has yet to be announced, according to Broadway.com.
Featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter, "Kiss Me, Kate" includes such classics as "Too Darn Hot," "So in Love" and "Always True to You in My Fashion." The production features orchestrations by Larry Hochman and musical direction by Paul Gemignani.
With a book by Sam and Bella Spewack, newly revised by Amanda Green, "Kiss Me, Kate" centers on a production of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and the conflicts between Fred Graham (Chase), the show's director, producer and star, and his leading lady, Lilli Vanessi (O'Hara), who also happens to be his ex-wife.
As previously reported, the musical comedy was the first musical to win the best musical award at the Tonys.
The principal cast also includes Terence Archie, Mel Johnson Jr., Adrienne Walker, James T. Lane, John Pankow and Lance Coadie Williams.
The ensemble features Darius Barnes, Preston Truman Boyd, Will Burton, Derrick Cobey, Jesmille Darbouze, Rick Faugno, Haley Fish, Tanya Haglund, Erica Mansfield, Marissa McGowan, Sarah Meahl, Justin Prescott, Christine Cornish Smith, Sherisse Springer, Sam Strasfeld and Travis Waldschmidt.
Scott Ellis directs and Warren Carlyle choreographs the Roundabout Theatre Company production, which began previews in February, opened in March and is set to continue through June.
As previously reported, it is O'Hara's first Broadway role since she earned a 2015 Tony Award for her acclaimed performance as Anna Leonowens in the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic "The King and I."
