Marquise Brown wasn’t able to showcase his world-class speed at the NFL Combine or at Oklahoma’s Pro Day last month.

But now Brown will have the chance to showcase it in the NFL as a first-round draft pick after being taken No. 25 overall by the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

Brown was the first wide receiver picked and was the second Sooners player picked, after No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray.

He’s the first Sooners wide receiver taken in the first round since 2005, when Mark Clayton was taken No. 22 overall by the Ravens.

Brown arrived at Oklahoma as a string-bean thin but blazingly fast junior college receiver.

He was just 148 pounds when he got to Norman, though he quickly put on weight. He weighed in at 166 pounds at the NFL Combine.

Brown had a monster performance in just his second game with the Sooners, but it wasn’t until late in 2017 when he became a star.

In Bedlam that year, Brown set a school record with 265 receiving yards on nine catches—two for touchdowns.

While Brown was mainly a deep threat his first season on campus, Brown’s game evolved as a junior, becoming more physical and getting better in traffic.

He credited part of his improvement to his offseason beach work in South Florida with his cousin, Oakland Raiders receiver Antonio Brown.

Brown had more than 130 receiving yards in four of Oklahoma’s first six games, before injuries slowed him.

But still, Brown had eight catches for 142 yards and a touchdown in this season’s Bedlam edition and then had 11 catches for 243 yards and two scores against West Virginia.

He finished the season with 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns on 75 catches.

But in the Big 12 Championship Game, Brown suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his foot. He tried to play in the Orange Bowl against Alabama but was ineffective, not recording a catch.

After the Sooners were eliminated, Brown underwent surgery on the foot.

He remains limited, though is out of the boot and is hoping to be ready for training camp over the summer.

In Baltimore, Brown joins a couple former Sooners teammates—offensive tackle Orlando Brown and tight end Mark Andrews.
