OSBI investigating police shooting where two children were hurt

HUGO — Two children and a man thought to be connected with a recent armed robbery were hurt in a police shooting Friday afternoon.

About 2 p.m. Friday, Hugo police officers were attempting to make contact with William Devaughn Smith, 21, when they opened fire, injuring Smith and the two children, according to a news release.

Smith was wanted in connection with the April 11 robbery of a Pizza Hut in Hugo. 

Smith and the two children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Smith was later released and is in custody of police in Paris, Texas. The two children remained hospitalized and the extent of their injuries was not released.

Hugo police requested the assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

No other details about the shooting were released.
