OSU softball scores 8 unanswered runs to edge Texas Tech
No. 12-ranked Oklahoma State scored eight unanswered runs to beat No. 13 Texas Tech 8-7 for the series victory Saturday in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls (36-11, 12-2 Big 12) trailed 7-0 after starter Samantha Clakley gave up nine hits and seven runs — six earned — in the opening 2 2/3 innings.
Logan Simunek saved OSU with a dominant performance in relief. The junior held the Red Raiders (35-11, 8-9) to four hits in the final 4 1/3 frames, and improved to 7-3 on the season.
The Cowgirls got on the scoreboard in the third with a solo home run by Rylee Bayless. Three batters later, Michaela Richbourg hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 7-3.
In the fifth, OSU's Chyenne Factor hit a two-run single and pinch-hitter Sydney Springfield drove in a pair of runs on a triple to tie the game at 7-7.
Factor, a freshman, lined a single through pitcher Missy Zoch's legs to cap OSU's largest comeback in coach Kenny Gajewski's tenure with the program.
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
