NORMAN — Oklahoma’s relentless march through its Big 12 schedule continued over the weekend with a three-game sweep at Iowa State.

The Sooners averaged 10.3 runs per game against the Cyclones, punctuated by a 14-0 win Sunday.

Weekend record: 3-0

Overall record: 45-2 (15-0 Big 12)

Juarez perfect again

Junior Giselle Juarez pitched her second perfect game of the season Sunday. Juarez struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced in the run-rule shortened affair.

“I didn’t realize it until the fifth inning, 3-2 count,” Juarez said. “‘Man, I have a perfect game going.’ It’s really cool, but I try not to think about it too much.”

Juarez improved to 20-0 with a 1.40 ERA. She’s notched 162 strikeouts in 115.1 innings against just 23 walks.

The Glendale, Arizona, native was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday for the third consecutive week and the fifth time this season.

Juarez leads the staff in innings pitched, but the other two options in OU’s rotation — juniors Shannon Saile and Mariah Lopez — boast better ERAs at 1.09 and 1.11.

Oklahoma’s 1.21 team ERA ranks second nationally behind UCLA.

Back to normal

Sophomore right fielder Jocelyn Alo was given a series off two weekends ago at Kansas. Coach Patty Gasso wanted Alo to reset after struggling to meet her own expectations.

It must have worked. Alo was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week with Oklahoma State’s Samantha Show.

Alo went 7-for-11 last week with four home runs and 10 RBI. She hit her first career grand slam Friday against Iowa State.

Alo’s batting average has risen to .402. She’s fourth on the team with 12 home runs and third with 42 RBI.

Up next

A much-anticipated Bedlam series.

No. 1 Oklahoma has won 35 consecutive games. No. 13 Oklahoma State is riding an 11-game winning streak.

The Sooners and Cowgirls will meet at 6 p.m. Friday in Stillwater, 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman and 3 p.m. Sunday in Stillwater.
