High school baseball: Players to watch in Class A, Class B state tournaments
The Class A and Class B baseball state tournaments begin Thursday, with Class A being played at Dolese Park and Class B at Shawnee High School.
Here are some players to watch throughout the tournaments:
Kyler Denton, So., Fort Cobb-Broxton: The pitcher and shortstop has been impressive, going 6-1 with a 1.32 ERA and 48 strikeouts to just 10 walks on the mound. He’s also batting .443 with 11 doubles, three triples, a home run and 31 RBIs. He’s stuck out just four times.
Carson Funkhouser, Sr., Fletcher: The infielder has been a force at the plate. He enters the tournament batting .578 with nine homers, 42 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He’s paired with senior Caleb Amparan, who is also batting .455.
Trevor Kelly, Sr., Southwest Covenant: A nice utility player who can play in the outfield, catch or pitch, Kelly has been a big boost from the nine hole for the Patriots, who are making just their second appearance in the state tournament. Last year, they made the Class B state tournament.
Trevor Martin, Jr., Asher: An Oklahoma State commitment, Martin is a big, powerful right-hander who could get the start in the quarterfinals. The 6-foot-4 star can overpower nearly any opponent.
