Dodgers drop doubleheader against Round Rock

Round Rock Express swept both games of a Wednesday doubleheader against the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Round Rock won the first game, 12-5, and the second game, 9-3, in front of a sellout crowd of 9,929 on school field trip day. The two teams opened their series Wednesday morning after the first two scheduled games of the series were postponed due to rain.

The Dodgers (8-17) took a 5-0 lead in the opener in the first inning, highlighted by RBI triples by Will Smith and Edwin Rios. Paulo Orlando added an RBI double in the frame.

Oklahoma City added two more runs in the inning, one on a wild pitch and the other when Angelo Mora grounded into a double play.

Round Rock (15-10) stormed back with six runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth. Center fielder Derek Fisher and first baseman Yordan Alvarez were the hitting stars for the Express.

Fisher was 3 of 5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. He delivered a two-RBI single in the Express' six-run third and added a solo homer in the fourth. Alvarez was 4 of 5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored, hitting two doubles in the game.

Orlando was 2 of 2 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and run scored for the Dodgers.

In the second game, the Express jumped a 7-0 lead in the first inning, tying the most runs allowed by the Dodgers in an inning this season.

Dodgers' starting pitcher Justin De Fratus walked the first three batters before Alvarez delivered an RBI single. An error produced another run then Round Rock's Alex De Goti belted a grand slam.

De Fratus was ejected by the home plate umpire in the first inning after recording only one out. He allowed six runs, five earned, and walked four.. Alvarez added a two-run homer in the second inning to give Round Rock a 9-1 lead.

The Dodgers and Express finish the series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
