A day at the races for hat designs and fashions
Where style counts, the patrons at Churchill Downs in Kentucky didn't have anything on folks who attended the races Saturday at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
Women sporting hats of varying sizes and designs, guys in bow ties and couples dressed in color-coordinated outfits showed up to bet on their favorite horses. Some also participated in a hat and bow tie contest.
There were classy hats, whimsical hats, hats with wild designs and fascinators. Some contest participants said they spent hours designing the hat they wore.
Sara Starr, an Oklahoma City chef, won the hat contest with an ode to conservation — a wild creation of a butterfly garden.
Here are some of the hats seen at Remington Park on Derby Day.
