Man arrested in connection with SW OKC slaying
A 43-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, accused of fatally shooting a man in the front yard of a southwest Oklahoma City home.
About 9:15 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of SW 19 on a reported shooting. At the scene, officers found Randy Lateeth Hurt, 49, in a yard with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Hurt was taken to OU Medical Center where he died during surgery, according to a court affidavit.
Police detained two people inside a home where Hurt was found. A woman told police that Hurt and Darin Lewis Davis were arguing outside her home the night Hurt was shot. She said Davis kept a handgun inside her home for “safe keeping.”
During the argument, Davis reportedly came inside the home, grabbed the gun and went back outside. The woman reported hearing a single gunshot and then Davis came back inside and hid the gun in a “hole near the back door and fled the scene in a red car,” according to the affidavit.
The woman told investigators that after Davis left, she went outside and found Hurt shot in the front yard and called 911.
Davis is being held without bail at the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint.
Hurt’s death is considered the 28th homicide for Oklahoma City this year.
