High school track: OKC-area athletes to watch at the Class 6A-5A state track meet

The state track and field meet for Classes 6A-5A is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Moore High School.

Field events will begin at 10 a.m. with running events starting at noon.

Here are some Oklahoma City-are athletes to watch for at the state meet:

Boys

Calvin Allen, Sr., Noble, 5A: Allen finished third in the 1,600 meters and second in the 3,200 among all regional contestants and in the competitive Edmond North regional.

Kobe Cole, Jr., Edmond Santa Fe, 6A: Cole placed third at the Edmond North regional in the high jump, but he was one of five Class 6A high jumpers to leap 6-foot-6 at regionals.

Kevin Jackson, Sr., Midwest City, 6A: Jackson posted the top 100 time and second-best 200 time at the Ponca City regional. He’s one of the quickest sprinters in the metro.

Anthony Riley, Sr., Westmoore, 6A: Riley has dominated Class 6A long jump for a couple years, and he’s looking to finish strong. At the Edmond North regional, he posted a 22-foot, 11-inch leap.

Dadrion Taylor, Sr., Carl Albert, 5A: Taylor ran the quickest time in the 200 among all Class 5A regional participants, blazing to a victory in 21.60. He’s looking to help Carl Albert repeat as champions.

Slater Ward, Jr., McGuinness, 5A: In the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles this season, Ward has been Class 5As best. At the state meet last year, he finished less than seven hundredths of a second behind former teammate Randy Ilechukwu for gold in the 110 hurdles.

Girls

Jada Atkinson, So., Southmoore, 6A: Atkinson captured victories in the 100 and 200 during regionals. Her 100 was the top time across all sites while her 200 was second best.

Delanie Crawford, So., Piedmont, 5A: Crawford has talent in basketball and on the track, too. She posted the top time in the 1,600 and the second-best 800 among all regional contestants.

Natalie Hill, Fr., Mustang, 6A: Hill came away victorious in the high jump in her regional after a 5-2 leap. She tied for fourth among all regional contestants, two inches off the lead mark.

Maddie Medina, Sr., Edmond North, 6A: The Oklahoma signee cruised to victories in the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Edmond North regional, continuing a record-setting season.

Maddy Scott, Sr., Carl Albert, 5A: Scott tied for the top high jump across all Class 5A regionals at 5-2. She won at the Edmond North regional and is in good position to win gold.

Wardice White, Fr., Southeast, 5A: White finished second during the Edmond North regional in the 100- and 200-meter dash. As a freshman, her regional time was seventh-best overall.
