OSU to host NCAA softball regional
Oklahoma State will stay home for the first round of the NCAA softball tournament.
OSU will host BYU, Tulsa and Arkansas in the four-team, double-elimination regional tournament to be played next weekend at Cowgirl Stadium. The winner will advance to the super-regional against the winner from the Florida State regional.
Arkansas and Tulsa will meet in the regional opener at 5 p.m. Thursday. Oklahoma State will face BYU at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the first round. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The double-elimination bracket will be played out over three days. BYU officials do not permit their athletic teams to play sporting events on Sundays, necessitating the Thursday start in STillwater.
OSU came into the Big 12 tournament ranked No. 14 in both major polls and No. 12 in the NCAA RPI.
OSU defeated top-10 Texas for the third time in four meetings to open Big 12 tournament pool play, then routed Iowa State 17-2 to seal a spot in the tournament championship. That game, which likely would have been against No. 1 Oklahoma on Saturday, was canceled because of wet field conditions.
OSU is 39-14 overall, with wins in 13 of the last 16 games, while going 13-5 in Big 12 play.
