OSU softball: Samantha Show pitches Cowgirls past BYU
STILLWATER — It wasn’t flashy, but it was efficient and effective.
Oklahoma State scored three runs in the first two innings, then put the game in the hands of dominant starting pitcher Samantha Show to do the rest.
Show pitched the Cowgirls to a 3-1 win over BYU in the opening round of OSU’s NCAA softball regional Thursday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
Show allowed three hits with two walks and two strikeouts, settling in after getting the early lead. She induced 11 groundouts in sending the Cowgirls to the winner’s bracket game against Tulsa at noon Friday, televised on ESPN2.

“It was like the pressure was off my shoulders,” Show said. “I was able to go out and pitch and have fun. I wasn’t worried. I knew we would either put more runs up or the defense behind me was gonna make plays when we needed to.”
Show played a role in the offensive production, too, scoring on a groundout in the first inning and driving in another with a double to right field in the second.
OSU’s first run came courtesy of senior Madi Sue Montgomery, who drove in the 200th run of her career, becoming the sixth player in Big 12 history to do so. Her single to right field scored Rylee Bayless to put the Cowgirls on top.
The win improved the Cowgirls to 40-14 on the year, the program’s first 40-win season since 2011.
“This team just continues to break barriers and do things we haven’t done in a long time,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said.
Tulsa advanced with a 5-0 win over Arkansas earlier Thursday. BYU and Arkansas will meet in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Tulsa and OSU split their two games during the regular season, with Tulsa winning 3-0 on March 20 and OSU winning 5-0 on April 16.
“I know we’re gonna wake up, and it’s gonna be a fight,” Gajewski said. “Every pitch is gonna count. Every swing is gonna count. The team that plays free, the team that plays clean, that’s who’s gonna win.”
