Andre Roberson hasn't played in 16 months, so he had to help the Thunder in off-court ways

Andre Roberson hasn’t played since Jan. 27, 2018. Hard to grade someone who hasn’t played in 16 months, so we’ll have to grade Roberson in non-traditional ways:

Mentoring

A Roberson has placed under his wing Terrance Ferguson, and the 20-year-old blossomed this season as a viable perimeter defender. Such teaching can be difficult, since Roberson could be grooming Ferguson to win the starting job permanently. Roberson said he just harkened back to when Kendrick Perkins or Thabo Sefolosha – two other defensive specialists – would take over film sessions and help younger players

Positivity

B Roberson admitted that he was upset when his rehab went sideways. Even cried a little. But publicly, Roberson has been nothing but upbeat, from demeanor to the way he cheerleads on the bench. Spending an entire season traveling with a basketball team but unable to play is not easy.

Studying

A Roberson said sitting on the bench gave him a unique perspective and allowed him to study opponents more in-game. Roberson even offered a few tips on how he will guard Portland star Damian Lillard at the next opportunity: “He likes to go to the left, and he likes to shoot off his left a lot, so I wouldn't let him get that way. When he's on his right hand he likes to drive more. So kind of got to take that into account. Whenever he used the double drag he would split the first one every time.”
