Mount St. Mary Catholic High School recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the installation of a football field turf, track and new visitor grandstands.

The project was initiated by Woody, Kacee and Jaquetta Glass and family and the estate of the late Gilbert Stockinger, a Mount St. Mary alum of 1962.

"This project is a game changer, not only for our athletic teams but for our entire school community," said Chris Stiles, director of advancement. "The impact will be profound for our marching band, our school community building activities, and will enhance the beauty of our campus. We are grateful to the Glass family and to the estate of Mr. Stockinger for investing in this transformational project."

Hellas Construction, of Austin, Texas, was chosen as the project’s construction management company. Construction on the project is expected to be completed Aug. 12, in time for preseason football practice.

"Ninety-five percent of Mount St. Mary students are involved in extracurricular activities," said Chris Crosbie, director of athletics. "The beauty of this new field turf is that it will allow them to practice and perform 365 days a year, no matter the weather conditions."

Woody Glass shared the inspiration behind his family’s lead gift: "This was an opportunity for us to say thank you to Mount St. Mary for all they've done for our kids and our family."
