Mustang’s search for a new baseball coach was short, but well worth it.

The Broncos landed one of the area’s top coaches in Westmoore’s Joe Patterson, sources confirmed to The Oklahoman on Saturday. The Mustang News first reported Patterson’s hiring.

The move will not be official until next month’s school board meeting.

Patterson took over at Westmoore in 2016 and led the Jaguars to the Class 6A state tournament each season. They reached back-to-back state championship games in 2017 and 2018.

Patterson is an Owasso graduate who played at Oral Roberts, Seminole State and Texas A&M. He’s coached with USA Baseball.

He replaces Keanon Simon, who recently resigned two years after his team beat Westmoore for the Class 6A title.
